We are excited to welcome this year's Community Champions as they join our daily volunteers in delivering Meals on Wheels on Thursday, March 15th in neighborhoods across our six county service area! Meals on Wheels organizations nationwide commemorate the historic day in March 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. Since 2002, Meals on Wheels programs from across the country have joined forces for the annual awareness campaign to celebrate this successful public-private partnership and garner the support needed to fill the gap between the seniors served and those still in need.
Currently, 15 locally elected officials including Wills Point Mayor Pro-Tem Mike Jones; Canton Mayor Lou Ann Everett; Van Mayor Don Smith; Quitman Mayor David Dobbs; Mineola Mayor Kevin White; Big Sandy Mayor Sunny Parsons; Gladewater Mayor Harold Wells; Whitehouse Mayor Charles Parker; Winona Mayor Pat Schlau; Arp Mayor Terry Lowery; Athens Mayor Monte Montgomery; Chandler Mayor Libby Fulgham; Yantis Mayor Jerry Miller; and Edgewood Mayor Steve Steadham will deliver meals along with daily volunteers and other guest drivers.
If you would like more information on how you can join the march, just call or email Zoe Lawhorn, at (903) 525-0906 or firstname.lastname@example.org
